General Information

Hakwood’s prefinished floors are extremely durable and are protected against dirt and liquids that may penetrate the surface.

Wood floors, even those made of very hard wood, are exposed to a natural wear and tear process. Marks and scratches on the surface are unavoidable. If the surface has been damaged by wear and tear, then it must be sanded and re-sealed. The durability and abrasion resistance of a sealed floor depends on regular and correct maintenance. This extends the life of your floor significantly.

• Attach felt floor protectors to chair and furniture legs. 
• Dirt and sand are abrasives; dirt-trapping carpets or mats should be placed in entries.
• Avoid using too much water during cleaning because water may cause damage to the wood.
• Care and cleaning processes should be done with a damp cloth.
• Any spots should be removed immediately.
• Do not use steel wool or high-pressure cleaners.
• Do not alkaline cleaning agents for normal cleaning since these may cause color changes of the wood.
• Place heavy furniture carefully.
• Before the surface is used, it should be first be cleaned .

Indoor climate
To prevent the floor from shrinking and expanding due to moisture exchange, the relative humidity should always be between 40 –60% at 70°F.

Rubio Monocoat
Vacuum, dry mop or sweep routinely to remove loose dirt or grit. Damp mop as needed using Rubio Monocoat Soap dissolved in water or ready to use Rubio Monocoat Surface Care.

Important!
After treatment with Rubio Monocoat Oil, the floor requires 3 weeks to harden completely. During the first week, it is advisable to only clean with a vacuum cleaner or a dust mop fitted with a dry cloth. Do NOT use a damp cloth! During the second week, a damp cloth, soaked in clean water and wrung out thoroughly, can be used with due care. After 3 weeks, the floor can be maintained using maintenance products from the Rubio Monocoat range.

Weekly maintenance
We recommend: Rubio Monocoat Soap or Rubio Monocoat Surface Care
Frequency: as needed
Maintenance with Rubio Monocoat Soap retains a matt finish.

Refreshment
We recommend: Rubio Monocoat Refresh
Frequency: dependent on the intensity of use, when rough spots appear.

Additional maintenance tips

Treatment of grease stains
We recommend: Rubio Monocoat Grease Remover

Treatment of lime spots (mostly due to hard water deposits)
We recommend: Rubio Monocoat Limespot Remover
For stubborn marks, it is recommended to repeat as many
times as needed to achieve the desired result.

Colour Restoration
We recommend: Rubio Monocoat Maintenance Oil
Frequency: depending on the intensity of usage, every 6 to 12 months.
Please refer to the Hak Maintenance Table for the correct colour of maintenance oil of your floor. In case you find the colour of your floor too intense we recommend you maintain your floor with Rubio Monocoat Maintenance Oil Pure / Transparent.

The floor can be cleaned with a cloth dampened with water (avoid using soap at this stage) after 48 hours. Wait 1 week before once more maintaining the floor with a mixture of water and Rubio Monocoat Soap.

UV Cure Urethane
Vacuum, dry mop or sweep routinely to remove any loose dirt or grit. Use a neutral, no rinse spray cleaner like Bona Floor Cleaner or Basic Squeaky Clean. Follow the manufacturers directions. DO NOT over wet the floor. When the finish becomes dull, the floor should be recoated using either Bona Traffic or Basic Street Shoe in satin sheen. These are waterbased, environmentally friendly finishes that are compatible with Hakwood’s UV cure urethane. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendation for floor preparation, coverage and dry times.

Hard Wax Oil/Osmo
Vacuum, dry mop or sweep routinely to remove any loose dirt or grit. Damp mop as needed using Osmo Wash & Care dissolved in water. Remove tough stains with Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner and an Osmo polishing pad. In order to refresh dull marks and traffic patterns in high use areas, clean the floor thoroughly with Wash & Care and allow to dry, then apply Liquid Wax Cleaner, allow to dry 30-60 minutes to a haze. Buff lightly with a soft cotton cloth or with a low speed buffer and a 3M white polishing pad.

If floor renovation is necessary, treat the cleaned surface with Osmo Hardwax-Oil.
